When my author/editor buddy, the lovely Francine Lasala, first broached the idea of doing an author event in NYC to coincide with BEA, I thought, “What a great chance to connect with other authors!” I wasn’t too sure about the event itself. Cause, you see, I’m a veteran of author events. I’ve done one too many in-store book signings, with a smile plastered on my face like the girl at the eighth grade dance who’s not being asked to dance, and book festivals where crowds are promised and a handful of attendees actually show up for your speech. I warned Francine she’d have to “get out the vote.” And boy did she ever! You see, there was one thing that didn’t exist back in the Pleistocene Era when I first started doing book events: social media. In the old days it was a sign in a bookstore window, these days it’s a sign in a REALLY BIG window that stretches across the global, with tons of enthusiastic followers. Francine and fellow Book Buzz authors have done an amazing job of spreading the word.
I’m pumped about Book Buzz! I get to connect with other authors AND readers. We who toil in solitude in our ivory towers (aka home office) love nothing more than a girls’ night out, and this promises to be the ultimate girls’ night out. Books, cocktails, sparkling conversation and some laughs, I’m sure. Oh yeah, and yummies to nibble on.. What could be better? (Any male readers who want to come, you’re welcome too.) It promises to be a scintillating evening.
So come one, come all. And if you see a group of ladies wearing pink ostrich boas and sipping Pink Stiletto cocktails, you’ll know you’re in the right place (just kidding about the boas). Mark it on your calendar: MAY 30th at the Stone Creek Bar and Lounge on East 27th Street (between Third and Lexington) from 7pm to 9pm. And bring a book bag for all the books on offer (at a special price) cause you won’t walk away empty-handed. Cocktail and autographs complimentary.
