Upcoming Mystery Series
Yep, I was a die-hard Nancy Drew fan as a girl. On the cover of those books Nancy is always looking over her shoulder as if at someone creeping up on her, and yet she never flinches from searching for the missing key…or clue in the crumbling chimney…or whatever (or whoever) might be lurking on the darkened staircase or in the attic. Years later I look back at that and smile, realizing I’m more like Nancy than I knew back then. I’m not afraid to Go There, even if it occasionally gets me into hot water. And I never met a mystery I didn’t itch to solve.
Lately my intrepid inner detective has led me down the path of writing and publishing (gulp!) mysteries of my own. I felt it was time to strike out on my own and see what came of it. And since I’m a go-big-or-go-home kind of gal, I decided if I was going to self-publish it wouldn’t be just one book but a whole series. Thus my the Cypress Bay mystery series was born. The idea for the first book came to me when I was visiting my hometown of Santa Cruz, California around this time last year. My fictional town of Cypress Bay captures a lot of what I know and remember about Santa Cruz. The idea for the plot grew, over the ensuing months, into what became BONES and ROSES. It makes its debut this summer. I’ll be announcing the pub date soon.
Honestly? I’m excited but also a little scared. My stomach hurts whenever I think about it too much, just like if I were on a high wire with no safety net. But courage is not my short suit and you can’t succeed unless you try. So onward I go, me and my inner Nancy Drew climbing that dark staircase together. Stay tuned for more about BONES and ROSES and my Cypress Bay mystery series. As long as I don’t get bludgeoned by that shadowy figure on the staircase.
